I offer a variety of editing and consulting services to independent authors, but by far my most popular service is my all-in-one I-Will-Help-You-Self-Publish package
For $5,000, I’ll help you develop your book from manuscript to finished product. I’ll provide line-by-line developmental- and copyedits, interior formatting for book print and ebook, cover design, and guidance through the self-publishing process. I’ll also help you develop a marketing strategy for your book.

Why?
Becoming a published author is easier than it’s ever been. No longer does a writer have to beg at the door of the Big Five publishers to get their work in front of an audience. But navigating the world of indie publishing can still be difficult, especially for a first-time author. I’ve seen too many talented writers self-publish great stories with low-quality formatting. Or pay vanity presses thousands of dollars only to have the book never materialize—and if it does materialize, have to continue to pay royalties to the vanity press, who doesn’t care whether the project succeeds or fails.
Instead of paying six grand to a vanity press, you can work with me for half as much, and you’ll retain full control of your project—not to mention the money that comes from selling it.

Who?
I’m Shawn Mihalik. I’m the author of six independently published novels, and in partnership with Joshua Fields Millburn of The Minimalists, I help hundreds of students a year learn to become better writers. I’m the former managing editor at Paleo Magazine, the only print magazine dedicated to the Paleo and Primal lifestyle. I also spent years as editor-in-chief of Asymmetrical Press, a publishing company for the indie at heart, where I helped dozen of authors by editing and formatting their books and guiding them toward a path of authorprenurial success.
I’ve edited and/or formatted the work of many popular indie authors, including The Minimalists, Colin Wright, Emily Schromm, Paul Saladino, and Leo Babauta.
How?

I usually strive to have editing and formatting projects completed within a matter of weeks, although some more complex projects (especially design-heavy formatting work) can take longer. We’ll talk timeline once I know more about your project and your needs. Once the initial editing and/or formatting is done, I’ll continue to work with you as a consultant, mentor, and guide as you make your way through the next steps in the publishing process.
